The Barron report

The first half of the twentieth century will long be remembered as an age of “scientific enlightenment”. Many great medical breakthroughs came into being along with the “horrors of nuclear annihilation”. Unfortunately, politics and profit motive advertising have served to dampen the overall good effects of the age of enlightenment.

To begin with, everything taught in colleges and universities is fifty to one hundred years old at the time it is being taught. This time lag is a “built in” but detrimental factor largely the cardinal sin of the political factor. Churches who call themselves “Protestant” as opposed to “Catholic” and their universities have been controlled by powerful forces that too closely resemble the mistakes of the dark ages of the Catholic church. Three professors of a certain church, that draws it name from the humble locality of Jesus' early years, have written books that seem contrary to their church's belief. One of those professors lost his job, which he had held for twenty five years, as a result of his book's content.

Profit motive advertising has caused people to disregard the biological teaching of “things that depend on each other” in nature, called symbiosis. The prevailing scenario is: A television ad for a certain soap or antibacterial will cause a certain degree of hysteria and lead to a certain mentality of “if I don't understand it, I'll get a big stick and kill it”. The fallacy of this has been over hyped by the ecologists concerning things visible to the naked eye, but what about microscopic things?

We are slowly emerging from an era of “antibiotics” and just now seeing multiple ads on television for “probiotics”. It began with a product called Activia. Now there are several products, and because of the sensitivity of the potential buyer, they never tell you what they really do.

There is on line a comprehensive report called the Barron Report. The report begins as follows:

Beneficial Bacteria: An Army of Billions

When you are healthy, over 100 trillion microorganisms, from some 400 different species, flourish in your intestinal tract, aiding in digestion, absorption, and the production of significant amounts of B vitamins and enzymes. But more importantly, they crowd out all harmful bacteria -- allowing them no place to gain a foothold.

Unfortunately, the levels of beneficial bacteria decline dramatically as the human body ages. Some of the reasons for this decline include:
